Whilst in Valencia we had some maintenance to do on Camira.
I had to adjust the stern gland which meant taking the batteries out, bit of a palaver, and since they were about to total anyway after 7 years use, I decided to replace them.
Camira then decided that if she was getting new batteries she also wanted a new alternator. The local engineers, whilst reasonable for the batteries, wanted the GDP of a small country for a new alternator.
A lovely Spanish couple berthed at the back of us we had been having a nodding acquaintance with stepped in and organised their friend to get me one far cheaper. All the way down we have generally met people who go out of their way to be helpful. I am sure this couple postponed their last day of sailing to help organise our replacement. In addition they signed us into the Yacht club pool, which wasn’t open to visitors.
Needless to say we ended up on their boat to drink the cava we had bought them as a thank you.
This seems more tiring than Billy & Jaynes!
