Until recently Samothraki has not had a secure harbour and has remained a solitary island shrouded in mystery. It’s a forbidding looking place, a gigantic lump of marble rising up to 5,200 ft at the summit of Mount Fengari.
Ak (Cape) Akrotiri forms a shallow bay in which the harbour of Kamariotissa nestles. It is essentially a small fishing hamlet and the ferry port for Samothraki.
It has the usual smattering of tavernas, mini markets and scooter hire places. It’s a nice wee village from which to explore the rest of the island, which we plan to do later.
Harbour views and Camira’s washing oot to dry !
The main street & church
“Ach” he’s still not open !
“Ah well , just wake me when he opens then”
Beautiful church. How do they keep all their buildings so white. Surely they don’t constantly paint them x
