We logged our transit details with Messina VTS and set off at 11:00 am from Scilla.

Leaving Scilla and approching entrance to Strait
The transit was gladly uneventful. We passed a few big ships but they were no where near our inshore traffic zone.

The 2nd picture above shows the extent of the turbulence, Maybe the Scilla was smiling on us?
We had read horror stories of dodging ferries and fishing boats and fast tidal eddies caused but the differing salinity in the Ionian & Tyrennian sea,but none of that for us?
We were thinking that perhaps we didnt need to wait for springs to pass after all. The turbulence was no where near as powerful as say at the Dorus Mor on the West Coast of Scotland? Anyhow better safe than sorry and go by the book.
We passed one of the sword fish boats and Louise got him to give us a wave but not sure if we caught it on the pictures. Strange looking craft![]()
